"The illiterate of the 21st. Century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn."...........Alvin Toffler
This is not the first time a white actor was preferred to play the lead over a Chinese actor. Bruce Lee should have been the main character in the Kung Fu television series in the 70's. The role was given to David Carradine. It is a new century. We have a black president and China is powerful both economically and militristically but why stupidity still exists in the entertainment media?
Being Chinese I have often been confused by the description of my skin tone as being "yellow". In comic books or any illustrations depicting a Chinese or Oriental person, the character is coloured yellow. My skin tone is not yellow and when I look at other Chinese, Japanese, Korean people, it is not yellow skin tone that I see. We are a lightly tanned colour when we have a little exposure to the sun. When kept out of the sun, we are a very attractive ivory colour. Many of our female counterparts use parasols to shade themselves to maintain their beautifully light colour skin as well as escaping from damaging UV rays of the sun.
The curious thing is that white people are not depicted in illustrations as white in colour but rather a pinkish tone. Caucasians skin tone are not referred to be pink even though it would be more accurate. There seems to be some kind of bias in this practice of skin tone depiction. A stereotyping of racial skin pigmentation that must be corrected. Now that there is a black president in the White House maybe it is time to correct this colour blindness that have persisted all these years. Yellow is a beautiful colour but yellow isnot the colour of my skin just as the colour white is not the colour of many of you.
These attitudes and incidents still exist in my neck of the woods. I've experienced it while walking in Kerrisdale when a couple of yahoos in a pickup truck made racist comment to me as they drove by. Were they jealous because I was walking with a blonde lady friend in one of the more wealthier sections of town? Did it ever occur to them that soon Metro Vancouver will be predominantly inhabited by people with ethnic features and it isn't slavic in nature if you know what I mean.
Go with the flow...go with the flow...we did for over a hundred years not wanting to rock the boat but the world has changed now. Change with it or be left behnd.
I like bubble teas on a hot summer's day. It's tasty and fun to drink because of the little tapioca balls (pearls). They are an extra treat after all the liquid had been enjoyed. I was sucking on these over-sized plastic straws that came with the drink and thought that there is a very good chance someone and especially a yougster can choke on these little balls while sucking down this delicious concoction. These little tapioca balls are large enougj to block a child's air pipe and potentially choking a little person. So please be careful and monitor a child when they are enjoying this fun drink. Tasty but potentially hazardous.
